Principal's CornerWelcome to Berrien Middle School Welcome to Berrien Middle School! A Title I Reward school! This is an award that BMS has received three consecutive years for high progress on standardized testing. Many new and exciting opportunities are happening this year. The students at BMS will receive a rigorous educational experience. Beginning this year, the students will no longer take the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT). The students will now take the Georgia Milestone Assessment in the spring. Since this assessment will be more "in depth" than the CRCT, teachers are revamping units to ensure that students will continue to receive the quality education that has always been the tradition at Berrien Middle School. Our CTAE classes (Business Ed, Family & Consumer Science, Technology, and Agriculture Ed) received grants from the Department of Education allowing upgrades to their programs. In fact, the two most significant changes were in Family and Consumer Science and Business Ed. In FACS, there are now four kitchen areas compared to one. Business Education will be operating off of a virtual server; therefore, the only equipment that will be in front of students in the classroom will be a computer screen and keyboard. The production room for the morning news broadcast has been expanded in the Technology classroom by having a wall taken down. Carpet was added to both the lecture area as well as the broadcast area. In the very near future, changes will be coming to the Agriculture class.Along with the quality education, Berrien Middle School also realizes the importance of the social aspect. Therefore, several clubs and sports are available. The clubs include BETA (6-8 grades), 4-H (6-8 grades), Technology Student Association (TSA), Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), Y-Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Yearbook, and Wildlife. The sports available are football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, golf, wrestling, cross country, cheerleading and tennis. We trust that your child’s years at Berrien Middle School will be great! It will give them an opportunity to learn and grow.
